A Cheaper iPhone: Why its Not Here

Since the dawn of the iPhone, Apple has made a name for itself as a “premium” option  in terms of Smartphone manufacturing. Every time the company releases a new generation of their devices, rumors burst forth of a cheaper counterpart device. With the launch of the iPhone 5, however, these rumors have gathered steam, and have spread across the internet.

These rumors seem like a brilliant fantasy for just about any tech geek out there, but Apple has never been known to cater to their customers, rather, their customers adapt to Apple’s decisions. It seems highly unlikely that Apple would cannibalize the sales of their current iPhone by releasing a cheaper alternative. The iPad Mini should provide a good enough lesson for the Company to learn from.

Pricing their phones well above the competition, Apple still does not seem to be able to provide the latest internals. Samsung, Sony, and HTC have been spewing quad-core phones since the second half of 2011, and Apple is still pushing out devices running on dual-core processors. While this is, in itself, not a bad thing, how could Apple hope to provide a more competitively priced device, that is able to hold its own against devices in the same range?

On the whole, Apple does not seem desperate enough to need to release a “cheap iPhone” just yet. However, the possibility of them reducing the price of the 4S, which is almost as current as the 5, is much more likely, even probable.

Do you think Apple will release a cheaper iPhone, or reduce the price of the 4S?

Probably not… They want to remain as that “premium” company… Plus Samsung also accounts for the “mini” audience in the market

do you mean they won’t reduce the price of the 4S, or won’t release a cheaper iPhone?
If the former, I really think they will, because it would be the best “business” move to make.
